first project devoted to the work of irene gomez
displaced is composed of curators Diana Cordoba and Claire Shea. It was born out of a desire to work together to exhibit the work ofcontemporary artists whom we know and whose work we respect. The name displaced refers to two things. It alludes to the fact that we are both émigrés in a foreign country and that we do not have a gallery space out of which we operate. Rather, we find a particular space for each exhibition and challenge the artist to develop work which will be featured in the space. In this exhibition, Irene Gomez combines her interest in 'otherness' and its location within the contemporary landscape. In order to exploit this relationship, Gomez uses modern technology and solicits viewers to engage with it. Doing so, she hopes to expose the way in which self-awareness is attained - through comparison rather than through definition.
